Our program creates an intensive 6 week program usually consisting of 30 inmates who are preparing to be released. We allow inmates to build their resumes and communication skills in order to apply for jobs and creates an education program designed to fit the needs in improving those skills. The instructors involved in our program are volunteer teaches whom are willing to help those in need when it comes to obtaining a better education. We have made sure over the past few years that the teachers in our program have a solid background in education, mainly found in the local universities in our area. They will be apart of a team that we have created consisting of 10 team members that will volunteer 3 days a week.
These volunteer teachers will be accompanied by officers that will be overseeing the whole process to make sure that everything is going as smoothly as possible in our program looking out for the safety of our teachers and our prisoners.
Our program is designed to help out the inmates with factors such as better literacy skills, reading , and better interview skills. We have come to the realization that a good percentage of those that are incarcerated in prison are illiterate, which is a huge factor when it even comes to find a job. By improving those skills we can help them out to move on in the world. Another way we help them is by teaching them valuable interview skills. Interviews are a huge factor when it comes to finding jobs, by teaching them the proper ways to hold a conversation it can show their professionalism and their passion in being able to work in the real world.
We use several texts to improve their well being such as Houses of Healing: A Prisoner's Guide to Inner Power and Freedom that we encourage to be read outside of class just to give them a better look at life and to allow this transition from a prison cell to the outside world an easier one . At Career Premiere we are not only thinking about the future of the inmates, but the future of our citizens !
